Why Leo Messi is So Damn Good!

On the latest Total Soccer Show we attempt the impossible: Describe how and why Leo Messi is so very very good (50 goals in 43 games so far this season good) at this soccer business without resorting to words and phrases like “magician” or “miracle worker” and without making the not-as-clever-as-everyone-thinks analogy that “it’s like he’s playing a video game.”
Instead, we focus on Messi’s dribbling style, the timing of runs, his finishing (which always seems to be placement over power), decision-making (when to shoot, when to pass and when to be step up and take over a game) and his often overlooked Lineker/Inzaghi-esque poacher’s instinct.
Listen to this 12 minute segment of the latest Total Soccer Show to see if we manage it:

If you like that segment then you may want to hear the rest of the show, which you can do so below for the very affordable price of free—because if you ever pay anyone to listen to their podcast then you either have too much money or not enough sense. In the full show we review DC United’s loss to Sporting KC as well as FC Dallas’ victory over New York Red Bulls. Was Thierry Henry right to drop deep and demand the ball from his teammates? Daryl says no, Albert says maybe yes.
Also reviewed: Fabian Johnson’s injury meant Danny Williams was forced to play right back and mark Franck Ribery as Hoffenheim got a 7-1 beatdown from a mighty looking Bayern Munich. Not a good day to be a German-American. And as is tradition, we close with the Wikipedia Game, asking: How many players from Ajax’s 1995 Champions League winning team can you name?
